Local Abandoned Factory Turns into Artistic Theatre

China achieved great success in industrialisation from the two decades between 1958 and 1978. In Beijing, we have seen plenty of abandoned factories built in the 1960s and 1970s. Most of those previously industrial sites have now turned into art galleries. Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art in the 798 Art Zone being on of the most notable factory-art galleries, there are many factories worth exploring around us. This factory is located beside Tongli Market, 3.9 kilometres south-east of BIBA. We have taken the chance to enter the abandoned factory and take photos to share.

This factory is a beautiful site on its own, but now the question is: what will it become in the future? It is more than obvious that this place needs some serious cleaning, so we currently do not know  when it will be restored. However, according to the “PLUG-INS FACTORY” plan’s posters, this factory will eventually develop into a theatre with the authentic senses, sans heavy refurnishing.
