Even if there were some imperfections during this performance, it was still a beautiful memory
— Ery Wang, Segno Team

Starting from last  semester, some students who love to dance assembled together and formed BIBA’s first-ever dance troupe— Segno. Segno has already been performing at multiple BIBA events ranging from Day A Assemblies, BIBA’s Got Talent, the 2022 Chinese New Year celebrations, and most recently, the 2022 BIBA Concert. There are students from Grade 7 to Grade 10 as dancers in Segno, led by Ery Wang from Grade 10. According to the dance troupe, Ery is an ace member and dancer in the team and till now has organized many wonderful performances for audiences.

Their latest performance was at the BIBA 2022 Concert in Shunyifornia, March 4th. The songs they performed were “Scientist”,《抚摸抚摸》and “bad alive”. During an interview with the BIBA Press, Ery Wang said that “Undoubtedly, [the] winter concert [was] a very important event for us, as the audience included both students from inside or outside school.” When asked about for how long they’ve rehearsed for their latest performance, she went on to say “[We] also had the longest preparation time, all of us spent a lot of time for this performance since beginning of last semester.”

When asked to comment on their latest performance in the 2022 BIBA Concert in Shunyifornia, March 4th, Ery told us “even [if] there were some imperfection during this performance, it was still a beautiful memory.” She also explained the pieces that they performed to. “《抚摸抚摸》tells the story of friendship and the desire of inseparable, 《Scientist》 tells that love doesn’t need reason or a justification; all that’s needed is just love and passion. 《bad alive》 delivers the message of strong confidence, glories and the sense of fearless on stage.”

As the 2022 Concert was the turning point between Spring and Winter as well as being the biggest musical event of the school year, Ery went on to say that she hoped “everyone could cherish friendship and live up to the messages delivered in the songs we danced to”.

Of course, their performance was the result of hours and hours of hard work and rehearsals. All the dancers told us that their hard work, improvement, and their serious attitude towards their rehearsals were what actually made their performance a success. “For me, it was an excellent performance,” said a Segno dancer.

We also asked Ery about what it meant being a leader and her experience dancing with other Segno members.

“Being the leader is not easy, gathering people up needs lots of communications,” she commented. “Throughout the months working with my team helped me improve my organization skills and be taught me to be patient.” To the Segno dancers, she said that “I am grateful for all my members as they are very willing to cooperate and [are] considerate. All of us are happy and honored to have the opportunity to take this stage, and we will bring back more passion stage to the community.” She also hinted that the team will be back for more shows later on the school year.

Of course, we didn’t forget to ask what Segno meant. After all, to most people, Segno sounds at best unfamiliar; to us, the team’s name was a point of curiosity as their dance moves were.

Ery explained that the meaning of their club name ‘Segno’ was actually from a music symbol symbolizing “repetition”, meaning to come again from a target position. “We will be continue to push ourself harder, and bringing more high-quality and shocking stage.”

When asked whether they have something they want to say to the student body, they said that “We hope everyone to be prepared and ready to meet Segno in broader stage in the future.

Keep on the lookout for future Segno performances!
