Normal and Abnormal
by Heidi He
She, clever, handsome, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition to me, was abnormal in others’ point of view. She, Tiara Willows, was my best friend.
Tiara was new in our class, and she barely uttered a word. Our classmates treated her as an outcast, since she devoted time to only read by the window, others, on the other hand, play around with a distracting manner. People started to call her a jerk or use whatever bad word to describe. There’s no need to make a fuss over someone who’s only reticent. At least, I can persuade me, but I can’t make others to be nice to her.
The first day that she was introduced to us by Mrs. Wren, I found her charming. She had brown eyes with a glitter of gold, which, was extraordinary. I talked to her immediately. “ Tiara, your eyes are special! Did you borrow them from a fairy?” She smiled at me hastily, and in the corner of her eye, a sparkle of gratefulness glowed. After about a second, she turned and walked away. That, was the day that I met her.
“There’s no need to flatter me, Eliza,”Tiara said to me the other day, “You are charming too.”
She was trying to hide her shyness, so I further encouraged her to be brave.
The summer concert was coming, and she agreed with me to play violin together. She learned 8 years of violin, and I learned 4 years. I was astonished by her violin techniques. The sounds of her violin are high, bright, and sweet. The music gradually flourished under her hands. She told me how to improve, and we devoted 4 hours together everyday. That’s how we became friends.
We decided to play the song: "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C, and Mrs. Metasha, our music teacher would sing. Mrs. Metasha’s voice is the harmony of angels, and we all love her style. She wore a plain but elegant coat, which was not drab in our eyes. She also encouraged Tiara to express her ideas freely. Mrs. Metasha once said, “Speak up like a carefree bird.” We all agreed, and she secretly recited with us when we had time.
Like a rushing wind, 2 months passed, and it was finally near time for the concert.
5 days before the concert, we bought some gowns together and went to the Hair Salon’s to get
our hairs permed. Tiara was very excited to be on the stage. Her shyness disappeared swiftly like a blink of eyes
On the backstage, she helped me makeup. She was so proficient on doing make up, which I never knew that before. I found many of her positive sides by being her friend, while on the other hand, other people won’t know.
Before entering the stage, I was very anxious. But after Tiara coaxed me, I was less worried.
On the stage, we played and played. The students, teachers, and guests all clapped and clapped. My mom, dad and many other parents were crying. They were crying, not only crying because of the notes of the lyrics, but also because of our efforts and charming music.
Years passed, and we graduated. Tiara and I went to different universities. One day, I suddenly remembered what had happened years before during the summer concert, and the lyrics of "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C.
“Aswegoon
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change Come whatever
We will still be
Friends forever”
So, I wrote a story about her.
There’s no need to be cynical, no need to see the bad side in everybody’s personalities and actions. Normal makes you like everybody, but abnormal makes you normal but unique.
