Debut in 仙 bar in the East Beijing Hotel

“Since our band members had changed this year, our debut is in the XIAN 仙 bar located in the East Beijing hotel 东偶.” Claimed Katarina, the leader of the band. “We performed two songs. One is called ‘Dancing’ by Mellow Fellow, the other one is ‘Gave You Everything’ by The Interrupters. For our debut this year, everything went pretty well. As an accumulation of experience, we can improve according to our performance to better adapt to future performance.”

Current Members

Introduced by Katarina Dou

  • Mary Wu

Mary is the lead singer in our band. This band is the first school band she participated in. Although she didn't study vocal music, singing is her hobby, so she joined this band. She enjoyed the sense of achievement that singing has brought to her.

  • Mr. Jeff

Mr. Jeff is a teacher at the elementary school. He is a great guitarist and has played guitar for many years. He is the one who first organised this band. Mr. Jeff arranged rehearsals and performances and helped to lead and organise rehearsals.

  • Lisa Pang

Lisa has played acoustic guitar for around three years. She can play both acoustic and electric guitar according to the different styles of songs we have for the band.

  • Katarina Dou

Katarina is the leader of the band. She has played bass for around four years. Katarina teaches other band members when they are confused with the piece. She also leads rehearsals when the band is practicing the song together.

  • Michelle Park

Michelle is our pianist, and she had learned piano for a few years. This is a new experience for her because she played classical piano but not the keyboard. She learned new skills by practicing in this band.

  • Sean Shao

Sean has played the drums for 8 years. He is a great drummer, and he is always able to find good music of different styles. He also advises on improvement during practices. The band gave him opportunities to show himself on stage and improve his skill.

No style…or every style?

“Our band doesn’t have a specific style. We are open to anything that sounds fun and cool. We play diverse music, including pop, rock, jazz, etc. We can play songs that are slow and gentle, and we can also play songs that are loud and crazy. We want to play different styles of music, so we make sure that the songs we choose are contrasting with the other pieces we have. “

Future Plans

According to Katarina Dou, Don’t Chew Flammulina will make their appearance in the Winter Concert, future assemblies and various charity concerts such as the “Rock against cancer” performance at the 仙 bar.

“We practice every Wednesday to prepare new songs and practice our old songs for future performances.” Said Katarina.
